I am happy that my father brought me, as a teenager, to the Black History Month gathering.
Each of the events was an occasion for me to learn my history.
Now, 20 years later, I notice, with satisfaction, that Montreal’s black community looks healthier.
I am proud to notice that our culture is enriched with African blood.
As Spokesperson for this 19th edition, I am particularly proud of the chosen theme by our organizing committee: “Each one’s effort brings more to all”. It clearly illustrates black communities’ contribution to Quebec’s society.
I dream of a day when the youth that holds this culture from this bloodline will have inspiring role models within its community. I have hope that economic inequalities will cease hardening this youth.
I dream of this day, and I know we will make it happen!
